Testing of structures for presence of asbestos
As part of a Highways Agency initiative, survey and testing specialists HTS have undertaken Type 2 surveys to more than 300 structures within the M25 sphere.
Term contractors Carillion have instigated a rolling programme to test bridges, tunnels, gantries and carriageways.
HTS engineers agree with the client which parts of a structure should be tested - this may be drains, sealants, permanent formwork, fillers - anywhere where there is considered to be a risk of asbestos.
A sample is removed in accordance with UKAS accredited sampling procedures and taken away for testing by a laboratory accredited to undertake asbestos testing.
Sample removal may take the form of drilling, boring, or removal of lump of material such as mastic . A report is then compiled for inclusion in the client's asbestos register.
