MILFORD BRIDGE

OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW

Concrete repairs were required to the beams supporting the cantilevered footpath of the two-span structure spanning the River Derwent. The repairs were located around the centre pier and therefore could not be reached from the river bank.

THE CHALLENGE

The bridge was located in the centre of the village with a very tight bend in the road leading to both ends of the bridge.  Scaffolding access was planned for the works, although the installation and removal of this would have resulted in prolonged disruption to the road users of the A6 and proved very expensive.

THE SOLUTION

The solution Topbond devised was to supply a modular plastic pontoon working platform from its marine plant hire division and use an aluminium access tower to gain access to the soffit. Topbond also supplied a safety boat and skipper for the duration of the works. The solution significantly reduced the disruption to road users and offered the client a substantial cost savings.
