European Oak Joinery for Luxury Housing
This luxury conversion consists of two houses joined by a ‘steel framed link’.
Howard Joinery (East Kent) manufactured the timber components at their workshops in Dover. This consisted of 95 x 440mm cill sections and 275mm wide column cladding panels, all manufactured in European oak.
Howard Joinery were originally asked only to provide a decorative European oak cladding to the steel framing. This was an ingenious solution to hide shrinkage/expansion. The cladding proved so successful, both aesthetically and practically, that European oak was eventually used for all the link window frames, cladding to external walls and the entrance frame.
