Mosque extension
Cast stone elements for Mosque extension project
Broadmead Renaissance Cast Stone recently supplied cast stone elements for a part of a 5-year, £1 million project to extend a Mosque in Sussex.
Wet cast reconstituted cast stone elements for the windows—consisting of lintels, cills and jambs—were produced on a supply only basis in one of Broadmead’s standard finishes —Portland Stone.
A more challenging task for Broadmead was the manufacture of the elements for the porticos. These consisted of plinths, columns, capitals, voussoirs, keystones, lintels and thresholds. The porticos were fitted by Broadmead’s skilled stone fixing team.
The lower part of the portico was fitted and then timber headtrees were used to support the top of the arches during fitting
The arches were produced in a very attractive combination of Portland Stone and Special Blue finishes. After fixing, the units were pointed and after checking by an engineer the timber headtrees were removed.
