Specialist civil engineering contractors recently used their experience and expertise in the field of bridge repairs to carry out refurbishment on the East Cliff Viaduct on the busy A2 approach road to Dover – used daily by hundreds of cars and lorries heading for the Continent.
The requirement was to prepare the entire length of the downhill carriageway to receive a new barrier in place of the existing one. With partially aligned post centres the task involved a range of techniques.
They included diamond sawing, excavation, hydro-demolition, oxyacetylene cutting, above and below slab membrane removal, planing and shotblasting for excellent surface preparation before reinstallation of waterproof membrane and re-macadaming.
Using a ‘partnering’ approach, Topbond engineers were able to suggest modifications to the initial method statement before the site works began and so saved clients’ time and expense across the whole repair package.
