In 2002 Intaspan were approached by Bath & North east Somerset Council regarding the construction of a single span foot/cycle bridge to link existing footpaths at Norton Radstock.
Intaspan had already worked with Bath & North East Somerset on the Keynsham Footbridge, and were delighted to have another opportunity to work with the authority.
The brief was for a steel footbridge, but since no firm design had been agreed, Intaspan submitted several options — all steel, steel structure with timber deck and steel parapets and steel deck with timber parapets.
After consideration, Bath & North East Somerset awarded the design and build of the bridge to Intaspan, opting for a steel warren truss span with Ekki hardwood top and bottom rail and vertical Ekki infill.
Erection took place in June 2003 using an 80 tonne all-terrain crane. A Sunday was chosen to minimise traffic disruption and the erection operations were completed to schedule.
