VNA Grinding by Q-Plane VNA Grinding by Q-Plane
Since the launch of HTS Flooring, the company has completed a significant number of remedial works to concrete floors throughout the country, including concrete grinding works. Recently, the company was requested to provide technical advice and proposals to resolve an unusually difficult problem at the Keystore high-bay warehouse in Hull.

Following a rack levelling programme it became obvious to Keystore management that the aisle slabs were not flat enough to carry-out safe and speedy rack loading with existing MHE.

Unusual “curling” of the floating floor slab was identified as the main problem. During consultation with the client to confirm their requirements HTS Flooring were convinced that this would be yet another opportunity to use the “Q-Plane” to provide an excellent solution to an otherwise intractable problem.

The “Q-Plane” is a concrete floor grinding machine manufactured by Alphaplan BV, Belgium and offers a unique combination of grinding capabilities and quality of finish for high tolerance floor slab work. As soon as Keystore gave the go-ahead for the work HTS Flooring arranged for the Q-Plane to be shipped promptly to the site whilst the warehouse prepared for its arrival.

The speed and accuracy of the Q-Plane is remarkable - the curled slab was quickly ground to Superflat tolerances within TR34 standards for VNA trucks, by removing a massive depth of >50mm at the curled edge, but taking off just < 2mm. at some locations at the opposing edge. Even at this depth, the Q-Plane achieved seventy metres of aisle length in just three and a half hours.

This was an unusually severe test for the Q-Plane which is typically used to further improve on the flatness tolerances of slabs previously considered to be adequate but not flat enough for the safe and fast use of modern MHE. The Q-Plane’s inventor, Hans Voet, was impressed by the versatility demonstrated by his machine at this site despite having demonstrated its prowess in many European countries.

This success has provided a great technical step forward for HTS Flooring’s range of services to warehouse owners, contractors, lessees and occupiers.
